Sanjiangyuan National Park is located in the hinterland of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. It is the birthplace of the Yangtze River, the Yellow River and the Lancang River. The total area of the area is 123,100 square kilometers, involving four counties of Zhiduo, Qumalai, Maduo, Zaduo and Hoh Xil Nature Reserve. A total of 12 townships and 53 administrative villages. There are famous Kunlun Mountains, Bayankala Mountains, Tanggula Mountains and other mountain ranges in the area, winding and criss-crossing, with towering glaciers. The average altitude here is more than 4,500 meters, the snowfield is vast, and there are many rivers, swamps and lakes. There are 167 lakes with an area larger than 1 square kilometer.
Sanjiangyuan National Park includes three parks: the source area of the Yangtze River, the source area of the Yellow River, and the source area of the Lancang River. The source area of the Yangtze River is famous for its beautiful mountains and glaciers; Two pearls inlaid in the grasslands of the plateau, both sides of the source valley of the Lancang River not only have unlimited scenery, but also a paradise for the spirits of the plateau.
On October 12, 2021, Sanjiangyuan National Park was included in the list of the first batch of national parks.
