Sanxiandong Scenic Area is the ruins of ancient Buddhist caves. According to textual research, it was excavated at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty. It is a cave that is known to be preserved in the west of my country. It is also the only Buddhist relic in the ancient Shule area, which is extremely precious. Because the river bank is steep and about 20 meters above the ground, it is difficult to climb up.
The openings of the caves are all rectangular, and the opening in the middle is slightly larger, 2.25 meters high and 2 meters wide. The three caves are evenly divided into front and rear rooms, the front room is 4 meters long and 2.5 meters high, and the back room is smaller; about half of the front room. The front and back chambers are both vertically rolled-roofed. In the cave in the middle, due to the reconstruction in the Qing Dynasty, the murals could not be preserved. Only a sitting statue of Sakyamuni in the back room still exists in the middle of the back room. On the west side of the grotto, the stone is exposed, the walls are chiseled vertically and horizontally, and there is nothing. It seems to be an unfinished cave. Only the grottoes on the east side preserve precious murals and algae wells. There are more than 70 Buddha statues of different sizes painted all around the cave wall. The algae well on the top of the cave is a lotus flower, and sitting Buddhas with a height of 50 cm are painted on each side. Inside is a seated Buddha, wearing a cassock with a checkered pattern, painted in alternate colors of sapphire blue and ocher. This kind of clothing is unique to the early murals. There is a portrait of a standing Buddha painted in the back room, which is beautiful in shape. The upper body of the Buddha statue is exposed, and the lower body is painted with horizontal stripes in green, blue and red, which is quite rare in Buddhist portraits.
