The Seventy-two Villages are a group of seventy-two Dong villages surrounding Leli Town, Rongjiang County, Qiandongnan Dong and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province, China.
Walking into the Seventy-two Dong Village, you will be greeted by rows of stilted buildings made of fir. Generally, there are three floors. The floor next to the ground is for feeding animals, the middle floor is for people to live in, and the upper floor is for food storage. Dong villages make a living by planting and breeding. They are self-sufficient in food, and every household has at least enough food. The child eats a year's grain.
In order to avoid natural disasters, the villagers also built granaries some distance away from the village. Generally, the granaries of the entire village were gathered together. Now they are still preserved, but many of them have been demolished. This has become a beautiful scenery in the Dong village. There are also carved houses of the Dong family. This kind of house has a long history of preservation and is also a very successful design by the architects of the Dong family, but there are relatively few existing ones. The carving room is carved with figures, flowers, birds and animals, etc., with exquisite craftsmanship and strong decoration.
