Shalu Temple is located in Xialu Township, 20 kilometers southeast of Shigatse, and is the main temple of the Shalu Sect (Buton Sect) of Lamaism. It was founded in 1087 by Jiezun Xiraoqiongnai. Because the emperor of the Yuan Dynasty gave a lot of funding when the temple was built, it has a strong Yuan Dynasty style.

Shalu Temple is composed of Shalu Temple and 4 Zhacangs. Today, the 4 Zhacangs have become residential buildings scattered around the temple. There are 49 rooms of different sizes on the upper and lower parts of the temple. The main hall on the ground floor enshrines the statues of Sakyamuni Buddha and the eight disciples. The second floor is a Chinese-style courtyard building. The front hall is dedicated to the statues of Sakyamuni and Buton Rinqinzhu. The left and right are mandala halls.

There are 4 pieces of temple treasures, one is a sutra board made of sandalwood, one is holy water packaged in a copper altar, one is a stone basin for Xirao Jiongnai to wash his face, and the other is a foundation stone engraved with six-character mantras. . It takes about 3 hours to visit Shalu Temple and Shalu Village, but because it is a certain distance from downtown Shigatse, it is recommended to set aside a day if you want to go there.
