Shanshan County is affiliated to Turpan City, Xinjiang. It is located on the east side of the Turpan Basin at the southern foot of Tianshan Mountain. It is adjacent to Mulei County and Qitai County in the north. Shicun borders Shengjin Township, Turpan City, and borders Ruoqiang County and Yuli County in the south through the Nanhu Gobi to Jueluotag. The total area of the territory is 39,800 square kilometers, accounting for about 2.5% of the total area of Xinjiang. It governs 5 towns and 5 townships, with a total population of 231,297 (2010). Shanshan Oilfield is the first large-scale Zhuluo oilfield in China. Lanzhou-Xinjiang Railway, Lanzhou-Xinjiang High-speed Railway, Lianhuo Expressway, Asia-Europe Optical Cable, and West-East Gas Pipeline run through the whole territory. There are three railway stations: Shanshan Railway Station, High-speed Railway Shanshan North Station, and High-speed Railway Tuha Station. It is 104 meters away from Turpan Airport. Kilometers, with superior location and convenient transportation, it is an important part of the one-hour economic circle in Urumqi. In 2017, Shanshan County was included in the National Garden County. In December 2018, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs identified it as the second batch of advantageous areas for agricultural products with Chinese characteristics. In 2018, the national health counties (townships) were reconfirmed.
