Shennong Creek was originally named Yandu River, but it was later changed to Shennong Creek because of the legend that Emperor Yan of Shennong went down the stream after setting up a frame to collect herbs. The whole stream is divided into 3 gorge sections (from the confluence of the Yangtze River to the inside: Longchang Gorge, Yingwu Gorge, Shennong Gorge) and 1 tributary (Mianzhu Gorge). The round trip takes about 4 hours.
Tourists board the cruise ship from the pier beside the Yangtze River in Badong County, and enter the Longchang Gorge section of Shennong River after about five minutes of sailing. People in the boat, looking around, can see greenery everywhere, and the mountains and rocks on both sides are mostly sloped at 80 to 90 degrees and straight into the bottom of the stream. The stream is green and the width of the water surface does not exceed 30 meters. The boat is traveling in the stream, the vegetation on the cliffs on both sides is lush, and the mountain flowers are everywhere. Sometimes you can see the wild fun of monkeys and roe sheep climbing and playing. In addition, you can also see some ancient mysterious hanging coffins on the edge of several cliff caves on both sides of the strait. How did the ancients put the coffins between the cliffs more than 4,000 years ago when the labor tools were extremely simple? It is still a mystery through the ages.
The cruise ship travels to the wide water surface of Mianzhu Gorge, and will transfer to the raft wooden boat provided by the scenic spot. The wooden boat is shaped like a pea pod, and the locals call it "pea horn". There are usually boat workers and Tujia tour guides on each boat, and sometimes the tour guide will sing a local folk song. After the cruise ship berths at Luoping Wharf (Luoping Reception Center), the tour guide will lead the tourists to watch the local folk performances, as well as the boatmen’s performances of the Three Gorges trackers (the performances are mostly in the morning, and in the afternoon due to the weather, sometimes Cancel).

must see tips
Since the water level of Shennong River has risen after the Three Gorges was impounded, boats can now sail freely in the river, and there is no longer any need for boat trackers to manually pull the boats. Fiber stretching has now become a mere performance.
