The cave dwellings in the Shijia Courtyard were built in the thirty-fourth year of Qianlong (1769) in the Qing Dynasty. At that time, it was the heyday of Qianlong. So they used the money to buy land, expand their family business, and build houses. It took nearly 200 years to build a vast and luxurious compound.
Its architectural style has typical northern and Shanxi residential characteristics, and it is divided into two parts: the main building and the auxiliary building. There are 31 courtyards of different sizes in the Shijia Courtyard. The building complex is mainly composed of courtyards, courtyards with two entrances, courtyards on the second floor and courtyards on the third floor. The most valuable part of the Shijia Courtyard is the art of architectural sculpture. Its wood carvings, stone carvings, and brick carvings are respectively decorated with bucket arches, sparrows, hanging falls, pillars, screen walls, pillar stones, plaques, curtain frames, door covers, etc. On the one hand, the genre is diverse and the content is rich. There are as many as 108 kinds of window lattice patterns with the word "Shou" as the main character. There are also many door panels, plaques, and woodcut plaques, all of which are rare calligraphy art masterpieces.
