Shouling Temple is a monastery of the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Located on the mountainside of "Sedeng Longransu" on the north bank of Xianshui in Xindu Town, Luhuo County, Ganzi Prefecture, it is one of the "Thirteen Temples of Hall". Ling means wishing longevity and peace in Tibetan. It was originally named Xiadan Raodeng Langjiling (meaning the Temple of the Eternal Blessing of Contentment), and was founded in the seventh year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1650). Shouling Temple has a long history and rich cultural relics. Legend has it that the 3-meter-high silver Sakyamuni Buddha statue enshrined in the main hall,is the fifthNgawang Lobsang GyatsogroupFinely handcrafted by silversmiths to the inner stash. The gold-plated bronze Buddha brought back from India in 1995 is also very precious. Many precious scriptures, the rare wind "Zhaoka" and those lifelike murals preserved in the temple are the testimony of the exquisite Tibetan culture.
