Shuinan Airport was transformed into a military-civilian airport in the 1970s, but was gradually abandoned. Later, the municipal planning became an ecological circle, which was opened to the public to ride bicycles. When director Ang Lee filmed the movie "Life of Pi", he spent NT$150 million to build a 3D water studio and a wave pool here, and 70% of the scenes in the movie were shot here.
At present, the Shuinan film studio has been preserved, and the lifeboat, an important prop in the film, is now outside the Taichung Museum of Natural Science for citizens to visit. The wave pool on the set is 75 meters long, 30 meters wide, and 3 meters deep, turning the public space of Shuinan Airport into a cultural and artistic area.
