Small Wild Goose Pagoda (Jianfu Temple)

The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is located in Jianfu Temple, and it got its name because the pagoda resembles the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and is smaller than the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Compared with the hustle and bustle of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda is much quieter. Under the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, there are many exquisite stone carvings such as stone Buddhas, lions, horses, and horse posts from past dynasties in the open air. Visitors who like folk cultural relics should not miss it.

The Small Wild Goose Pagoda was built in the Jinglong period of the Tang Dynasty (707 A.D.) for the translation of Buddhist scriptures by the "eminent monk Yijing" who had returned from studying Buddhist scriptures in India. When it was first built, it had 15 floors, but due to many earthquakes, there are only 13 floors left. There are wooden ladders inside the tower, which can reach the top of the tower by spiraling up.

Jianfu Temple was founded in the first year of Tang Ruizong Wenming (684 A.D.). The original site was located in Kaihuafang, Chang'an City, Tang Dynasty. It was later destroyed and rebuilt at the current address. There is a large iron bell cast in 1192 AD (the third year of Jin Mingchang) in the temple. In the Qing Dynasty, a bell would be rung here every morning, which is the famous "Yanta Morning Bell". Now every New Year's Day, there will be bell-ringing activities to pray for blessings.

In 2007, the Xi'an Museum was built in Jianfu Temple, adding a lake and new landscaping.
