The Sonam Dajie Protection Station in the Hoh Xil Nature Reserve is 4,479 meters above sea level. It is the one built earlier and has more complete facilities among the five protection stations.
Hoh Xil means "blue mountain ridge" and "beautiful girl" in Mongolian, and the area is called "Aqing Gongjia" in Tibetan. It is about 280 kilometers wide from north to south, 200-400 kilometers long from east to west, and covers an area of 45,000 square kilometers. The average altitude of the entire protected area is above 4600 meters, and the altitude is 6860 meters. The vast areas are mainly small and medium undulating mountains and high-altitude hills, terraces and plains, and the lowest temperature is minus 46°C.
