Jianhu Lake is located in the southeast of Jianchuan County, Yunnan Province. After leaving the east gate of the county, it can be reached by walking along the Jinlong River embankment for about 6 miles. The circumference of Jianhu Lake is about 25 miles, the water surface is nearly 8 square kilometers in normal times (it is much wider in the rainy season), and the average water depth is more than 4 meters. The water temperature of Jianhu Lake is moderate, with an annual average water temperature of about 11C. In the early morning of midwinter every year, only a little thin ice forms around the lake. With its exceptionally clean and sweet water quality, Jianhu Lake can be called a bright pearl inlaid on the northwestern plateau of Yunnan. Jianhu Lake has abundant water sources. In addition to the injection of Gemei River, Jinlong River, Yongfeng River, and Huilong River, there are also four self-suppressed springs in the lake, which gushes out, making the Haiwei River at the outlet of Jianhu Lake can be used all year round. The torrential leakage made the entire Sword Lake a place of running water.
Among the "Eight Views of Jianhu Lake" praised by the predecessors, Jianhu Lake is regarded as the second, one is "the autumn moon at Haimen", and the other is "fishing lights on the sea". According to the "Jianchuan Prefecture Records" compiled in the 52nd year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, the spectacle of "Qiuyue Haimen" is "the moon is reflected in the water of Haimen in the evening of Mid-Autumn Festival, before the moon rises". The spectacle of "Fishing Lanterns on the Sea" is "the fishermen in the lake are fishing quietly at night, and the fire is like stars and the sky is beautiful". It is a pity that due to the shrinking of the water surface, the spectacle of "Haimen Qiuyue" is no longer seen today. But the beauty of "fishing lights on the sea" can still be seen.
Every year on June 15th of the lunar calendar, it is the festival around the sea in the countryside around Jianhu Lake. At that time, the villagers of all villages will take their own villages as the starting point and circle around Jianhu Lake as if they were celebrating a festival. In this way, the villagers in the villages along the lake are both hosts and guests. They are the hosts when entertaining people from other villages in their own villages, and they become guests when they leave their villages and enter other villages. Along the way, young people sang and danced, and the elders talked about the past and the present, and they gave each other tea and candy as they passed through the village. Through the meeting around the sea, the villagers of each village can not only increase contact with each other, increase understanding, enhance friendship, but also cultivate their temperament and entertain themselves. Therefore, it can be followed year after year, and it continues to this day.
