The Dapu Stone Carvings are located on the south slope of Laotou Mountain, Dongju Island, Juguang Township, Matsu. Its history can be traced back to the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. The stone carvings record the anecdote of Shen Yourong, a native of Xuanzhou, who captured the Japanese. At that time, Japanese pirates were rampant along the coast of Zhejiang and Fujian, so the imperial court sent general Shen Yourong to garrison the coast of southern Fujian. Shen Yourong was both wise and brave, and captured 69 Japanese pirates alive on Dongsha Island without hurting soldiers. Put it on the stone to show Shen Yourong's achievements.
