In a broad sense, Hongmaocheng Historic Site Area refers to three buildings including the main building of Hongmaocheng, the British Consulate and the South City Gate. They are buildings with historical significance in Danshui and are also well-known local monuments.

The main building of Hongmao City has been renovated by different users in Spain, the Netherlands, Ming Dynasty, Qing Dynasty and the United Kingdom. The preserved ancient building is a square pattern with deep foundation and thick walls. . There are 4 rooms on the ground floor of Hongmao City, two of which were used as prisons after renovation by the British. In the late Qing Dynasty, all the British who committed crimes in northern Taiwan were imprisoned here.

The location of Hongmao City is steep. Many tourists will go to the viewing platform to look down at the Tamsui River. The sun sets and the Tamsui River Estuary is bathed in the sun.

Walking out from the small road next to Hongmao City, you can see the ancient cannon area. On the right side of the ancient cannon area is the British Consulate of the former Qing Dynasty. The facade of the building corridor is a semi-circular arch, and the interior furniture is well preserved. The sofa, tea table, and gramophone make people feel that time is interlaced.

Tamkang Middle School and Truth University near Hongmaocheng have a good environment and are also worth visiting.
