Tarim University, referred to as "Tarim University" for short, was founded in October 1958 and was named "Tarim River Agricultural University". In the autumn of 1977, the college entrance examination was resumed. Tarim University was directly under the Ministry of Agriculture. In 2003, it was granted the right to confer master's degrees. In May 2004, it was approved by the Ministry of Education and renamed "Tarim University". It was jointly established by the Central Committee and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. Included in the national "2011 Plan" and "National Demonstration Universities for Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform", it is a counterpart support university for China Agricultural University, Beijing University of Chemical Technology and other key national universities.
