The Tatar Temple was built with donations from the Tatar people in 1897. In 1919, a local Dehe foreign company funded the reconstruction, so it is also called the Great Foreign Bank Temple. The temple covers an area of more than 3,000 square meters, of which the chapel occupies about 800 square meters. The front porch columns are mostly carved and painted, and the decoration is gorgeous. There are 4 chapels, fully covered with carpets, which can accommodate thousands of people to worship.
The Tatar Temple is the main place for religious activities of Uygur, Tatar, Uzbek and other ethnic groups in the urban area of Urumqi. Many buildings around it have a strong Central Asian style.
