The Thousand Buddha Pagoda is located in the Dajue Temple outside the east gate of Luliang County. It was originally called the Golden Rooster Pagoda. The body of the Thousand Buddha Pagoda is made of bricks, in a hexagonal shape, with 7 floors and a height of 18 meters. It is the second batch of provincial key cultural relics protection units.
The body of the pagoda is densely covered with many pane-like Buddhist niches, and each niche enshrines several pottery Buddha statues, so it is also known as the Thousand Buddha Pagoda. There is a copper pot on the top of the tower, a stone gourd on the top of the tower, and iron cast golden roosters standing on both sides. Its conception comes from the sustenance of the good wishes of the ancient people.
It is said that in ancient times, there was a rebellious shark making waves here, which caused the place to be cloudy and rainy for years, the river was raging, and the people were in dire straits. Following the instructions of the gods, people built this high tower here to restrain the sharks. In order to prevent the sharks from escaping, they placed two golden roosters on the top of the tower to monitor its every move. Since then, the weather has been smooth and the people have lived a peaceful life.
