The Tiantishan Grottoes, also known as the Great Buddha Temple, are located in Dengshan Village, Zhonglu Township, 50 kilometers south of the city. They were founded in Beiliang during the Eastern Jin and Sixteen Kingdoms period, with a history of about 1,600 years. The peak of Tianti Mountain is majestic, steep and steep, high into the sky, there are stone steps on the mountain, you can climb up the steps, the road is rugged, shaped like a hanging ladder, so it is called Tianti Mountain.
Now there are only 3 floors and 17 caves of different sizes in Tiantishan Grottoes. The larger cave is 30 meters high, 19 meters wide and 6 meters deep. There is a statue of Sakyamuni in the cave, which is 15 meters high and 10 meters wide. On the left and right sides of the big Buddha, there are six statues of Manjusri, Samantabhadra, Guangmu, Duowen Tianwang, Kasyapa and Ananda. Majestic, with different images.
There are large murals painted on the north and south walls of the cave. The south wall is a cloud-patterned green dragon, the central part is an elephant sika deer, the elephant's back carries a shining scroll, and the lower part is a tiger, trees and flowers. The upper part of the north wall is painted with blue dragons, the middle part is painted with white horses, ink tigers, and the scriptures on the horse's back are shining, and the lower part is painted with peonies and flowers. The entire mural has fresh strokes, bright colors, majestic momentum and lifelike images.
The Tiantishan Grottoes are representative of early grottoes in my country. After the grottoes were completed, the world imitated the Jinta Temple, Horseshoe Temple, Manjusri Mountain, Yulin Grottoes and so on. In 2001, the Tiantishan Grottoes were announced as the fifth batch of national cultural relics protection units. There are Tianti Mountain Villa and Grottoes Cultural Relics Exhibition Hall in the Grottoes Scenic Area.
