The ancient city of Tongguan, from its inception to the Tang Dynasty, has been migrated twice and fortified in three places. The city is changeable and the facilities are different. In the early days of the Eastern Han Dynasty, the Hangu Pass established by the Qin Dynasty in Lingbao County, Henan was abolished. Emperor Wu and Emperor Xian successively moved to Xin'an, Henan and Hongnongheng Mountains.
During the Jian'an period, Emperor Xian moved to the outside of the upper south gate of Tongguan, which is now the area around Yangjiazhuang and Chengbei Village in Gangkou Town. The name of Tongguan comes from here. There are no records in the annals of its construction. Judging from its relics, it starts from the east and looks at the west edge of the ditch, and goes west through Chengbei Village to the east bank of the forbidden ditch. The east and west sides face the ditch, and the terrain is flat and vast. During the Southern and Northern Dynasties, the battle where Yu Wenjue, Emperor Mindi of the Northern Zhou Dynasty defeated Dou Tai, a general of the Eastern Wei Dynasty, took place here. After Emperor Min's victory, Tongguan was changed to "Tongguguan". "
