The tunnel warfare site is located in Nanzhuang Village, Pingding County, Shanxi Province. During the Anti-Japanese War, Nanzhuang Village was attacked on three sides. In order to resist the invasion, the villagers dug tunnels together to carry out "tunnel warfare" with the Japanese army. The excavated tunnel is about 4,000 meters long, with 22 entrances and exits, 31 residential cave dwellings, 21 ventilation holes, and 6 shaft-type anti-gas warfare and anti-smoke warfare organs. Decades have passed, and the tunnels in Nanzhuang Village have basically maintained their original appearance. In August 2013, Nanzhuang Village used the existing anti-Japanese tunnel sites to develop rural red tourism projects for protection. At present, the 1,000-meter tunnel to the west of the village has been opened to the public. Before the end of 2014, the remaining 3,000 meters of tunnels will be repaired one after another.
