Around the end of the 19th century, a strong earthquake occurred in the area of Yilian Habirga Mountain in Nilek. The earthquake caused landslides and rolling of gravel, which blocked the narrow gap between the two mountains in the Mengkede Valley. A geological disaster lake formed by accumulated rainwater. On both sides of the lake are mountains above 3,500 meters above sea level. The lake has a relatively large area, and most of the lake is dead wood.
