Ulungu Lake is the tail lake of Ulungu River, which can be divided into two parts: Dahaizi (Brentuohai) and Xiaohaizi (Jili Lake). Dahaizi is about 48.1 kilometers long, 25.3 kilometers wide, and covers an area of 736 square kilometers. It is a saltwater lake; Xiaohaizi covers an area of 160 square kilometers, about 16.8 kilometers long, and 6.3 kilometers wide. It is a freshwater lake.
The southeast coast of Dahaizi is a beach composed of fine and soft white quartz sand, without silt, the bottom of the lake has a gentle slope, and the lake is crystal clear. There are mostly fixed and semi-fixed sand dunes around the lakeshore; reeds and swamps are all over the west lakeshore, and the lakeside is a lacustrine plain; there is a silver sand beach about 10 kilometers long on the north shore, which is suitable for swimming, surfing, skateboarding, boating and other water entertainment activities. There are well-equipped bathing beaches and recreational facilities by the lake. The scenery of Dahaizi is charming. Sunset glow, fisherman's song singing at night, lake light and sky, clouds and shadows, and sunset and flock of birds are common sights.
Xiaohaizi is in the south of Dahaizi, boating on the lake, and the scenery you can see is comparable to the "Eight Hundred Li Dongting": the east coast and both sides of the estuary are densely covered with calamus and reeds; the bird island in the lake is a "paradise for birds", where seagulls spread their wings , White swans and spotted cranes are common. Between summer and autumn, there are flocks of wild ducks, and bird nests and eggs can be found everywhere on the island. Wherever there are people, the birds are frightened and full of vitality.
Ulungu Lake is also rich in more than 10 kinds of fish such as carp, crucian carp, pine perch, red perch, and northern pike. After sightseeing, you can taste the whole fish feast with excellent color, aroma and taste. Among them, stewed fish with ferulic mushroom is a famous product of Altay, which is extremely delicious.
