People's Park has an average altitude of 800 meters and is located 100 meters west of the "Long Bridge Drinking Horses" sculpture. It was originally just a lake on the west bank of the Urumqi River, surrounded by lush old trees. When the city of Urumqi was built in the 20th year of Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty (1755), it was designated as a resting place for officials.
The garden began to be built in the ninth year of Guangxu (1883). In 1918, Yang Zengxin, who was in charge of Xinjiang, expanded it, dredged the bottom of the lake, refurbished the shore, and built the Danfeng Chaoyang Pavilion in imitation of the ancient palaces in the Central Plains. Later, he built the Dragon King Temple, Zuixia Pavilion, Xiaochun Pavilion, and Jianhu Pavilion. The "Yuewei Thatched Cottage" was built to commemorate Ji Xiaolan, a scholar of the Qing Dynasty.
Now the garden is full of towering trees and flowers and plants. There is a garden in a garden with winding paths, a grotesque "Crystal Palace", sculptures in front of pavilions, children's amusement parks and roller skating rinks. From spring to autumn, there are flower exhibitions, bonsai exhibitions, calligraphy and painting exhibitions, and photography exhibitions. Ice sculpture festivals and ice skating activities are often held on March 9th in the middle of winter.
