Weibao Mountain, referred to as Weishan Mountain for short, is located 10 kilometers southeast of Weishan County, Dali Prefecture. It is famous for the birthplace of Nanzhao Kingdom and the sacred place of Taoism. It is one of the 13 famous Taoist mountains in the country. The main peak of Weibao Mountain is 2,569 meters above sea level, and it looks far away from Cangshan Mountain. The ancient trees in the mountain are towering and the scenery is beautiful. The ancients believed that there was a treasure in the mountain, so it was named. As a famous Taoist mountain, the Shang Palace on Weibao Mountain has many audiences, which is quite spectacular. It is divided into two parts, the front mountain and the back mountain. The front mountain is stretched with overlapping peaks, and most of the temples are hidden in dense forests; the back mountain is steep and steep, and most temples are built according to the mountain. There are more than 20 temples on the north and south sides of the main peak, among which Qingweiguan, Doumu Pavilion, Peihe Tower and Changchun Cave are the largest. In addition to a large number of Taoist temples, there are also a small number of Buddhist temples such as Guanyin Temple and Ganlu Pavilion. The layout of the temples is rigorous, resplendent and magnificent, and the murals in the temples are rich in content and lifelike. Whether it is architecture or painting and sculpture, they all have strong religious and national characteristics. Weibao Mountain is not only a famous Taoist mountain, but also the birthplace of Nanzhao Kingdom in Dali. There is a Nanzhao Tuzhu Temple built in the mountains, which was built to worship the Nanzhao Tuzhu in the past dynasties. Tuzhu Temple, also known as Xunshan Temple or Xunshan Tuzhu Temple. The statue in the main hall is the first Nanzhao king Xinuluo. Standing on both sides of the statue is a civil and military waiter, all wearing Yi costumes. There are several couplets in front of the Xunshan Temple, all of which are related to the history of Xinuluo and Nanzhao Kingdom. There is a circular tourist trail in the mountain, and you can play along the trail one by one. It takes about half a day to walk around the whole circle. The area where Taoist temples are more concentrated is the Yuhuangge area, where nearly half of the Taoist temples in the mountains are concentrated, and you can focus on sightseeing. Moreover, it is quite easy to walk from the gate of the scenic spot to Yuhuang Pavilion for about 20 minutes. If you are physically strong enough, you can continue to walk for 40-50 minutes to reach the larger Changchun Cave. If you have enough physical strength, you can go straight to the top of Weibao Mountain. There is a palace on the top of the mountain: Doumu Pavilion, which enshrines the Taoist goddess Doumu. According to legend, it is the mother of the Big Dipper stars, hence the name Doumu. The statue of Doumu has 3 eyes, 4 heads and 6 arms, showing its extraordinary supernatural powers. Standing next to it is a golden boy and a jade girl, each with their own looks. Doumu Pavilion in Weibao Mountain is quite popular among Taoist palaces in China. Climb to the Doumu Pavilion, overlooking the panoramic view of Weibao Mountain. At the end of the tour, you can go back down the mountain along the trail. Weibao Mountain is also an important place for folk activities of the Yi people. The Weibao Mountain Song Festival gathers here every year from February 13th to 15th in the lunar calendar, becoming a carnival for young men and women of the Yi nationality nearby. It takes a long time to travel to Weibao Mountain, and there are very few supplies in the mountains. It is recommended to bring your own drinks and food. If you are tired from walking, you can find a roadside with a good view to rest and eat. Or after the whole game is over, dine at the restaurant of Weibaoshan Hotel at the entrance of the mountain.
