Wendou Miao Village is located in the west of Jinping County, 35 kilometers away from the county seat. The village sits east to west on a green mid-mountain, facing the surging Qingshui River in front and surrounded by the green Wudou River in the back. The waterfall with a height of more than 90 meters is picturesque. There are more than 400 Miao families living in the whole village, and the houses are all wooden stilted buildings. The whole village is hidden among towering ancient trees, including pine fir, yew, ginkgo, camphor and nanmu.
Since the Ming Dynasty, one of the important businesses along the Qingshui River has been the timber business, but Wendou Village has established a rule: the trees in the village cannot be cut down. So after disembarking at the pier, you can see several towering trees that are rare in the Qingshui River Basin. The road extending to Wendou Village on the top of the mountain is a stone road. Climbing along this stone road for 20 minutes, you can see a big tree that can only be embraced by four or five people. This tree is the starting point of the village.
There is a "Yongning Nunnery" temple in the village. The original name of Yongning Nunnery is Shungong. It is located in Xincuo Natural Village, Xiaxincuo, Wendou Village. The palace was renamed Yongning Temple, which means Yongji's peace and tranquility. After Qianlong ascended the throne in Qing Dynasty (1736), Yongning Temple was listed as the thirty-seven capital palaces of Nan'an. After the Cultural Revolution, overseas Chinese living in Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, and Thailand raised funds to rebuild the hall. The main hall is a hard mountain-style stone and wood structure, with swallow eaves and ridges, and three doors wide. The shape was changed to a palace style, still with a stone and wood structure, and a worship pavilion and a bell and drum pavilion were added in front of the main hall.
