Baima Temple was called Jingangya Temple in ancient times, and Mazang Temple in Tibetan. It was built in the 10th century AD. According to legend, its creation is related to the founder of the Buddhist revival activity known as "Xialu Hongchuan" in the history of Tibetan Buddhism - Laqin Gongba Rao Sai. According to legend, his body was offered in the grottoes after being coated with medicinal mud.

Baima Temple is built on the hillside on the east side of the mouth of Hongyazigou, facing Ping'an Town across the Huangshui River, and Provincial Highway 301 from Ping'an to Huzhu passes near the temple. The whole temple is composed of scripture halls, monk houses, grottoes, Vajra Buddha statues and great pagodas living on the cliffs of the mountain. After disasters, there are only a few small-scale scripture halls and monk houses left.

There is a stone Buddha statue under the cliff, which is called "Maitreya Wanghe" in Tibetan. The white pagoda in the green shade and the ancient stone Buddha statue form an interesting contrast and form a whole.
