Youyang has two major water systems, the Wujiang River Basin and the Yuanjiang River Basin. The Wujiang River is located on the southwest border of Youyang County, originating in Weining County, Guizhou Province. It enters Wanmu and Gongtan in Youyang along the river, and flows into the Yangtze River in Fuling. The Youyang section of the Wujiang River is about 60 kilometers away, and it is the very essence of the "Wujiang Baili Gallery" of thousands of miles of Wujiang River.
Wujiang Baili Gallery includes the section between Gongtan Ancient Town and Wanmu Township in Youyang County, the main stream of Wujiang River, and the Youyang section of Apeng River, a tributary of Wujiang River that flows backwards from east to west. It covers an area of 240 square kilometers, including Gongtan Ancient Town Scenic Area, A Pengjiang Drifting Scenic Spot, Qingquan Covered Bridge Scenic Spot, Ma'an City Scenic Spot, Wanmu Yonghe Temple, Stone Forest Scenic Spot, Sanjiaqian Stone Forest, Hanging Burial Scenic Spot, and Changxigou Ecotourism Scenic Spot. Wujiang Baili Gallery has a long history and profound cultural heritage.
Gongtan Ancient Town has a history of more than 1,700 years; the Manwang Cave of the ancient Ba State was built in the Warring States Period; Ma'an City is the site of the Jintou Monk Uprising in the Southern Song Dynasty; hanging burials of the Bo people are the custom of the Bo people of the southern minority in the Eastern Han Dynasty. Cultural relics such as "Shocking Waves Beating the Shore" and "Bamboo Zero Poetry Niche" have a rich accumulation and are of great research value.
Wujiang Baili Gallery has colorful ethnic customs. It is the Ximen scenic spot of the hometown of Tujia hand-waving dance, and the cradle of Xilankapu and batik. The ancient Tujia people marrying back and crying, the unique Baogu Lantern Opera, Yang Opera, Horse and Horse Lantern, folk songs of love between young men and women expressing their love, and numerous folk handicrafts constitute the local charming ethnic customs.
