Xi'an Banpo Museum was built in 1957 on the site of Banpo (the site of the matriarchal tribe of the Yangshao Culture in the Neolithic Age about 6,000 years ago). It's like traveling through time, recreating the life scenes of the ancestors, and learning about the unique burial system and the ancient art of pottery making and painting at that time.
The Heritage Hall is the focal point of the museum
The museum is divided into the residential area, the pottery area and the burial area. Archaeological prices here are higher compared to normal tourist value. The ruins hall is the focus of museum visits, which will give visitors a feeling of traveling through time and space. Part of the living quarters of the site and a pottery kiln are displayed in the hall. You can learn about the stories that happened thousands of years ago through the touch screen. Electronic virtual and phantom imaging are also used in the exhibition hall to reproduce the scene of the splendid culture created by the ancient ancestors of Banpo.
Adults and children are buried differently
There are special small exhibitions around the site tour hall, where you can see extremely rare tomb systems. In the age of the Banpo people, different burial methods were adopted for adults and children. Adults were buried in the common cemetery of the village after death, and children were usually buried in urn coffins next to the houses.
There is also a showroom on the side of the hall, where there is a concentrated display of Banpo cultural relics. You will be pleasantly surprised to find the "human-faced-fish-pattern basin" (replica, the original is in the National Museum of China) that you have seen in textbooks since you were a child. Here, the original shape of Fuwa in the 2008 Olympic Games was also influenced by it. Banpo people's pottery and painted art is simple and geometric.
