Xianglin Shenmu grows next to Ciyun Temple and Xianglin Elementary School, near Alishan No. 1 Giant Tree Trail. The tree species is red cypress, with a circumference of 12.3 meters and a height of 45 meters. The age of the tree is estimated to be 2,300 years. The reason why the old name is Guangwu is because it is estimated that the time when the sacred tree fell to the ground and germinated was about the reign of Emperor Guangwu of the Eastern Han Dynasty.
Alishan, which is more than 2,000 meters above sea level, is located in the local foggy forest belt. It is shrouded in clouds and fog all year round. The annual rainfall exceeds 4,000 mm. "Alishan Shenmu" has a strong vitality. In 2006, the Forestry Bureau and the Tourism Bureau jointly organized the "Alishan Second-generation Shenmu-Who will compete for the top votes". According to the results of the voting, a giant red cypress tree won the most votes. It is estimated that the age of the tree is 2300 years old.
