The ancient city of Xiangyang is located in Xiangcheng District of Xiangyang City. The Han River passes through Xiangyang City and divides into Xiangcheng District (South Bank of the Han River) and Fancheng District (North Bank of the Han River) on the south and north banks. The ancient city of Xiangyang is surrounded by water on three sides in the south, north and east. This is also a city full of historical stories. In "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms", Xiangyang City appeared in 31 chapters, and many plots in "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" and "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" also took place in the ancient city of Xiangyang. Tourists who are planning to visit the ancient city may wish to take a look at these novels before going, so that the tour will be more interesting.

The city of Xiangyang was first built in the sixth year of Emperor Gaozu of the Western Han Dynasty (201 BC). The existing city walls were basically built in the Ming Dynasty, with city bricks on the outside and rammed earth on the inside. Today's Xiangyang ancient city is better protected by the north city wall near the river. The Yangchun gate of the east city wall, Xicheng gate of the west city wall, and Wenchang gate of the south city wall have been destroyed, but the basic pattern and double-layer defense system of the ancient city are still preserved on the whole. .

The Linjiang Gate of the ancient city directly faces the Han River. It is recommended that tourists enter the ancient city of Xiangyang through the north gate. Passing through the ancient city is a pedestrian street about 300 meters long. On both sides of the bluestone street, there are antique buildings, most of which sell souvenirs and restaurants. The souvenir here is more famous as "Kongming fan". Because Xiangyang borders the southern part of Henan Province, the food here is similar to that of Henan, with more pasta and heavy taste.

Walk along the pedestrian street and go southward until you arrive at Zhaoming Terrace in the ancient city. Zhaoming Terrace is located on the Central North Street of the ancient city. It is tall and majestic. It was originally built to commemorate the Prince Zhaoming of the Liang Dynasty (502 A.D.). Today’s Zhaoming Terrace has been rebuilt in recent years. There is a free Xiangyang Museum in Zhaoming Terrace. Interested tourists can go around.

The pedestrian street from the North Gate (Linjiang Gate) to Zhaoming Terrace is the essence of the ancient city. There is a square in front of the north gate, which is very popular at night, and sometimes citizens will light Kongming lanterns here and slowly climb up in the night sky. You can also come here at night, enjoy the river breeze, and look at the ancient city walls illuminated by lights.

The scenic spots worth visiting in the ancient city include Zhongxuan Tower, Green Screen Wall and so on. The Zhongxuan Building in the southeast corner of the ancient city commemorates Wang Can, a writer in the late Eastern Han Dynasty and one of the "Seven Sons of Jian'an". It is also one of the landmark buildings of the ancient city. Many inscriptions can be seen in the building. The green screen wall is located in front of the Xiangyang Palace in the ancient city. It is the screen wall in front of the Xiangwang Palace in the Ming Dynasty. The dragon pattern stone carvings on it are very exquisite, and it is a rare large stone dragon wall in China.

On the other side of the Han River at the north gate of the ancient city of Xiangyang is Fancheng District. There is Mi Gong Temple, which commemorates the famous calligrapher Mi Fu in the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127 AD), and you can visit it together.
