Gongga Xiazhulin Temple was built in the early 17th century AD, and what we see now is the temple rebuilt by the living Buddha Qinze of Sera Monastery in the 1980s. The temple is more famous for the body of the auspicious goddess it enshrines. She was seated a thousand years ago, and she was only twelve years old when she passed away. After her death, her body naturally shrunk to only one cubit high, in the sitting posture of Tara, with one eye even slightly open, as if half asleep and half awake. Legend has it that she is the real incarnation of Green Tara, the auspicious heavenly mother, and was enshrined in this temple by believers.
