Founded in 1839, the temple was expanded on the basis of several original small monasteries in the local area. It was built under the auspices of the third Dewacang Jiayang Tudanyima, a famous eminent monk of Labrang Monastery. Later, the tribe to which the monastery belonged was dedicated to the third living Buddha Jamyang, and became a monastery of Labrang Monastery. The third Jamyang, the third Dewacang, Huari Living Buddha, Gongque Jianzan and others once served as the Dharma platform of the temple.

The school rules and religious activities of the temple are the same as those of the Labrang Monastery. According to the "History of Politics and Religion in Amdo", the emperor of the Qing Dynasty once bestowed the "Prajna Island" on the forehead of the temple. Xicang Temple developed very rapidly. By the beginning of liberation, there were six colleges in the temple, including Wensi College, Shangxia Tantra College, Hevajra College, Kalachakra College, and Medical College; , There were more than 500 monks.

It is a pity that the grand and solemn building of the temple was severely damaged during the Cultural Revolution. In 1982, the temple was gradually restored, the Great Sutra Hall and Dharma Protector Hall were rebuilt, and Wensi College was established, with more than 150 monks. The temple is a must pass through the Zecha Stone Forest.
