Xinhuang Dong Autonomous County, affiliated to Huaihua City, Hunan Province, is located in the west of the middle and low hills in western Hunan. The total area is 1508 square kilometers. Among them, the mountain area accounts for 84.22%, and Tianlei Mountain, the highest peak in the territory, is 1136 meters above sea level. The county has jurisdiction over 9 towns and 2 ethnic townships, and the county government is stationed in Huangzhou Town. In 2015, Xinhuang had a population of about 270,000, of which the Dong ethnic group accounted for 80.13%. The forest coverage rate of Xinhuang is as high as 67.5%, and D-borneol camphor is distributed in communities. It is the only source of D-borneol camphor in mainland China. Rich in mineral resources, the reserve of potassium feldspar is 900 million tons, and the reserve of barite is 280 million tons. The output of agricultural and sideline products is relatively large, and it is the "Hometown of Yellow Cattle in Western Hunan" and the tobacco leaf production base county in Hunan Province. It has strong historical and cultural characteristics. During the Qin and Han Dynasties, it was under the jurisdiction of Yelang, and Yelang County was established in the 8th year of Zhenguan in Tang Dynasty. The Dong culture and Yelang culture have a rich accumulation, and the primitive rice culture and Nuo culture are well preserved. Among them, the Nuo opera "Dongdongtui" was included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage protection list.
