Xiyue Temple, also known as Huayue Temple, is a temple where emperors of all dynasties enshrined and worshiped the great Xiyue Emperor "Shaohao". Today's Huangfu Valley) mouth. During Emperor Huan of the Eastern Han Dynasty (147-167 A.D.), it was moved to the current site and changed to its current name. It was rebuilt many times in the Tang, Song, Ming and Qing dynasties.
Xiyue Temple and Huashan Scenic Area implement a joint ticket system. Many tourists who come to visit come here after visiting Huashan. The main buildings of Xiyue Temple are distributed on the north-south central axis. The outer city is a Ming Dynasty building, about 2 kilometers long, with turrets. The mountain gate——Haoling Gate, is a tall brick and stone city wall. Because there are three doorways, it is commonly known as the Sanlian Gate. When you stand in front of the gate, you will find that the shape here is very similar to Tiananmen Square in Beijing.
After passing through the mountain gate, there is the Meridian Gate behind, just like the end gate of the Forbidden City, with five tall brick door openings based on stone strips. Behind the Meridian Gate, you can see a stone archway—Zun Yanji Square, which was built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. The stone carvings on it are very exquisite. The main building of Xiyue Temple is Haoling Hall. The exterior of the main hall is towering and majestic. On both sides of the platform in front of the main hall, there are two symmetrical double-eaved imperial monuments and an octagonal pavilion with a Zantian roof. The main hall still retains the original wooden pillars, and the three plaques proposed by Tongzhi, Emperor Guangxu and Empress Dowager Cixi are hung here.
If you are an inscription lover, here will bring you many surprises. There are a lot of inscriptions in Xiyue Temple. The existing "Huayue Temple Stele" in the Later Zhou Dynasty was re-engraved in the Ming Dynasty with the "Tang Xuanzong Imperial Huashan Inscription" and the "Huashan Lying Picture" engraved in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. Wang Wei, Li Bai, Du Fu, and Chen Tuan were attached to the picture Celebrities such as Tang and Song Dynasties have poems and pictures of Huashan Mountain. There is also the stone forehead of "Yue Lian Ling Shu" written by Emperor Qianlong.
You can also go to the Wanshou Pavilion in the temple and look back at the five peaks of Huashan Mountain; the towering ancient cypresses in the temple are also worth tasting.
