Wuzhong has been the front line of frontier defense in northern China since ancient times. It is known as "the barrier of Guanzhong, the throat of Helong", and its strategic position is very important. From the Warring States period to the Qin, Han, Sui, and Ming dynasties, the Great Wall was built here.
Sui Great Wall:
The Sui Great Wall is more than 30 kilometers long in Yanchi County. The walls are black, red, and white accumulations of soil. The building is very rough, with a base width of 9 meters and a residual height of 1-3 meters. On the inner side of the wall, an enemy platform was built 1300 meters apart, which is now mushroom-shaped, with a base width of 13 meters and a residual height of about 7 meters.
Ming Great Wall:
From the early days of the Ming Dynasty to the Wanli period of Emperor Shenzong of the Ming Dynasty, the Great Wall was being built for more than 200 years. The Great Wall of the Ming Dynasty is about 400 kilometers long in Ningxia, among which the Yanchi East Great Wall in Wuzhong and the North Chakou Great Wall in Qingtongxia.
According to "Hongzhi Ningxia New Records", the East Great Wall "starts from the mouth of the Yellow River to Huamachi, and is 387 miles long. On the outside of this city wall, more than 440 million "pin" characters were dug along the Great Wall. The deep pit was used to strengthen the defense. Later, due to collapse and damage, the "deep ditch high base" was rebuilt in the tenth year of Jiajing (AD 1531). The "deep ditch high base" started from Lingwu Hengcheng to Huamachi, It is 180 kilometers long. In the first section of Xingwuying, due to "soil and sand, which cannot be guaranteed", in the 16th year of Jiajing (1537 A.D.), trenches were dug along the inside and outside of the side wall, each with a length of 53 miles.
