Yaowang Mountain is called Jiabo Mountain in Tibetan, which means: the mountain at the corner of the mountain. Located on the southwest side of the Potala Palace, at an altitude of 3,725 meters, it is close to the Red Mountain where the Potala Palace is located, and Beijing Road passes between the two mountains. There is a viewing platform halfway up the mountain, which is one of the best places to take pictures of the Potala Palace, and it is also the place where the pattern on the back of the 50 yuan coin was taken. Every morning, there are always photographers waiting here to take pictures of the first ray of sunshine in the Potala Palace.

Yaowang Mountain Cliff

There is a cave-like temple on the east side of Yaowang Mountain, with a strange shape, called: Chalalupu. According to legend, the cliff on top of it is the place where Princess Wencheng worshiped to the east when she missed her hometown. The cave was excavated in the Songtsan Gampo era and is still well preserved. The grotto is irregularly rectangular. There are 69 stone statues on the rock wall. Stone statues of gods are arranged on both sides of the corridor. The light in the cave is dim, and it is all illuminated by butter lamps.
