Yili has always been an important passage from Xinjiang to Central Asia. In history, many towns were built here to guard the border and develop trade. During the 150 years from 1762 to 1911 in the Qing Dynasty, a total of 48 people served as generals of Yili and took charge of the government in General Yili's mansion. Looking back on the past, the Yili generals who fought on the frontier in those days inevitably bore the brand of the feudal ruling class, but their loyalty to the country and devotion to the frontier will always be remembered by future generations. The Yili General's Mansion, which has been fully repaired by the national cultural relics department, still stands in a place representing national interests and dignity, protecting the tranquility of the frontier and witnessing the prosperity of the frontier.

The original General's Mansion was 7 kilometers to the south. Xinjiang was established as a province in 1884, and Dihua was the provincial capital. Yili General's Mansion was built in the eighth year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1882). Located in Huiyuan Township, Huocheng County, Yili Prefecture, Xinjiang, the military government is located in Huiyuan City, on the east side of Huiyuan Township, about 7.5 kilometers away from Yili River in the south, and Huiyuan Old Town in the southeast. The main buildings include the gate of the military mansion, the main hall of the general's mansion, the general's pavilion, the east and west barracks, guest rooms, study rooms, etc. The gate has a single eaves and a hard mountain tile roof building. It is three rooms wide and two rooms deep. It is a beam-lifting wooden structure. In 1996, it was listed as a national key cultural relics protection unit. The former site of Yili General's Mansion is in Huiyuan City, Huocheng County, Xinjiang. The former site of the General’s Mansion is still preserved in the city, facing south from the north. The ancient trees in the courtyard are towering; halls, terraces, winding paths and corridors still exist. The small and exquisite "General's Pavilion" has been renovated and stands among the green pines and green trees. A pair of strangely shaped stone lions in front of the General's Mansion in the past are still in the courtyard. They are lifelike and endearing. In the center of Huiyuan ancient city stands the majestic and tall Bell and Drum Tower. When you climb the tower, you can have a panoramic view of the scenery inside and outside the city. Historically, Hong Liangji, Qi Yunshi, Lin Zexu, Deng Tingzhen, Xu Song and other famous exiles have left brilliant achievements here. Lin Zexu led the people to open water conservancy, consolidate the frontier defense, and benefit the people. He was respected and trusted by General Yili and people of all ethnic groups. Although Lin Zexu had only been in Huiyuan for two years, many of his diaries, poems and letters were handed down.

Walk tens of meters from the Bell and Drum Tower to the east gate, and you will find General Yili's Mansion. Speaking of General Yili's Mansion, the local people have a sense of pride in their speech. After all, before the political center of Xinjiang was moved to Dihua (now Urumqi) in 1883, it was the military, political and cultural center of Xinjiang at that time. Interestingly, when you adjust your phone to automatically adapt to the time zone, you will find that Beijing time is two hours behind, which is what the locals call Xinjiang time.
