"Zhegu" means "scimitar" in Tibetan. Because the shape of the lake is like a scimitar, it is named "Zhegu Lake". According to historical data and folklore records, the lake was once named "Dama Yucuo", and it was a well-known pilgrimage site for the Bon religion in ancient times.
