Zhenyuan Ancient City (Zhenyuan Ancient Town) is located in Zhouzhenyuan County, southeastern Guizhou, on the banks of the Wuyang River. The river meanders through the city in an "S" shape, forming a pattern similar to a Taiji diagram, so it is also called Bagua Ancient Town. Every summer, tourists from the surrounding area gather here one after another, which is very lively.

Zhenyuan County is divided into two by the Wuyang River. The north bank is the place where soldiers were stationed in the old days, which is called the Acropolis; the south bank is the place where administrative agencies and civilian businesses gather, and it is called Fucheng. There are still some ancient city walls and city gate ruins in the city. There are two bridges on the Wuyang River, the west side is newly built, the locals call it the New Bridge, and the east side of the Zhusheng Bridge is a landmark building in Zhenyuan Ancient City, the locals call it the Old Bridge. Between the new and old bridges is the boundary of the ancient town in the traditional sense. The ancient town is composed of three streets (Xinzhong Street, Xinglong Street and Shuncheng Street) connected end to end. Both sides of the street are similar to other ancient towns, with inns, restaurants and shops.

Zhusheng Bridge is the landmark of the ancient town. There is a three-story pavilion on the bridge. It used to be the main channel connecting Hunan and Guizhou. It has been known as the "throat of Hunan and Guizhou" since ancient times. Every night, the Zhusheng Bridge is brightly lit, and the river water reflects the lights, which is quite spectacular. It is very suitable for strolling on the bridge or taking pictures.

On the east side of Zhusheng Bridge is Yuping Mountain. More than 40 Ming and Qing ancient buildings are built on the mountain, which is quite spectacular. These ancient buildings are built according to the mountain situation, blending with cliffs, ancient trees, vines, and caves, and they are completely natural. The Yuhuang Pavilion at the top is the highest point of Zhenyuan Ancient Town, and it is also a good place to watch the panorama of the ancient city.

There is a ruined section of the ancient Great Wall on the back of Yuping Mountain. It is the site where the Ming army fought against the border people. If you are interested and physically strong, you may wish to walk the Miaojiang Great Wall with its vicissitudes of history. Miaojiang Great Wall and Yuping Mountain jointly sell tickets, so you can play together.

In addition to the three main streets, there are also Sifangjing Lane, Fuxing Lane and Renshou Lane in the ancient city. The lanes are crooked, but extend in all directions. Walking in the alleys, ancient wells, ancient houses and some old workshops can evoke some childhood memories.

After visiting the ancient city, you can rent a bicycle at the entrance of Xinglong Street, and ride a bicycle around Zhenyuan County like a local. The air in the suburbs is fresh, and the green trees, wild flowers and farmland along the way will make you excited to leave the city. You can also rent a boat at the ticket office of the ancient city water tour, and go boating on the Wuyang River. Especially at night, watching the night view of the ancient city on the boat is particularly charming.

There are many inns in the ancient city, you can choose according to your own preferences. Settling in the accommodation, eating and drinking are essential. There are three special dishes in Zhenyuan Ancient City, including Dao Dish Braised Pork and Tiexi Braised Goose, which are worth tasting.
