Zhongyue Temple is located about 3 kilometers east of Dengfeng City, under Huanggai Peak at the eastern foot of Taishi Mountain. It used to be Taishi Temple, which was built in the Qin Dynasty (221-207 BC). The organizational system basically retains the scale after the reconstruction in the Qing Dynasty, and it is the most well-preserved ancient building complex in Henan Province. It is very convenient to go to Zhongyue Temple from Dengfeng City, and there are direct buses.
Zhongyue Temple adopts the traditional axisymmetric architectural style. When visiting, just walk forward along the central axis. On the central axis, there are archways, Yaoshen Pavilion, Chongsheng Gate, Junji Gate, Zhongyue Hall, Yushu Tower and other buildings in sequence, among which Zhongyue Hall is the most majestic. In the pavilions on both sides of the gate of Zhongyue Temple, there are two stone seats "Weng Zhong" (a kind of god statue). Weng Zhong stood in the fifth year of Emperor An of the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 118), and has a history of nearly 2,000 years. Passing through the archway, you can see an octagonal pavilion—Yaoshen Pavilion. From here, pass through Tianzhong Pavilion and Chongsheng Gate, and you will enter the second courtyard.
At the four corners of the Shenku on the east side of the Erjinyuan, there are four town-ku iron men cast in the Song Dynasty. Each iron man weighs about four tons and looks brave and mighty. It is the earliest and best iron man in my country that is well preserved. There are also two stone tablets on the east and west sides of the courtyard, both of which record the history of the reconstruction of Zhongyue Temple. Among them, there are three Song steles and one gold stele. The inscriptions on the four steles are all inscribed by the number one scholar at that time, so they are also called "the steles of the four champions".
On the east side of the "Junji Gate" in front, there are three stone steles, among which the "Zhongyue Songgaoling Temple Stele" is the most precious. It was carved in the second year of Tai'an in the Northern Wei Dynasty (AD 456) and was preserved in the Songshan area The oldest stone tablet has beautiful calligraphy and is a model of the Wei stele style. Over the past thousand years, it has been rubbed continuously, and the inscription on the inscription has become somewhat blurred.
The main building of Zhongyue Temple - Junji Hall, also known as Zhongyue Hall. The "Weiling Zhenyou" on the horizontal plaque in the main hall is the imperial pen of Emperor Xianfeng of Qing Dynasty. The panlong caisson on the top of the main hall is exquisitely carved and gorgeously decorated. The pair of iron lions in front of the hall were cast in the second year of Jin Zhengda (AD 1225), and they are fine cultural relics of the Jin Dynasty.
On the west side of the central axis is the "Patriarch Hall", and on the east side is the "Sanxian Palace". The iron lion outside the gate of the Sanxian Palace is a cultural relic cast during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty (AD 1573-1620). The Iron Lion of the Jin Dynasty is comparable. The ancient trees in the scenic area are towering, and there are more than 300 ancient cypresses. It is said that many of them were planted before the Han Dynasty, which is also a major feature of Zhongyue Temple.
