"Zizhu" is a literal translation of Tibetan sound, meaning the peaks of six mountains, and religiously symbolizes the six paramitas. It is said that Zizhu Temple was founded by the Tibetan king Muchi Zanbu. In the era of Living Buddha Luodan Nianbu, Zizhu Temple underwent an expansion, and engraved scriptures and shaped Buddha statues. Zizhu Temple began to take shape.
Entering the era of Lama Gawanglanga, the Buddhist scripture study system of the temple was further standardized and institutionalized, which brought the study scripture system of Zizhu Temple to a higher level.
Thanks to the hard work of the living Buddhas and masters of Zizhu Temple in the past dynasties, Zizhu Temple has had an important impact on the later religious development in Qamdo in terms of building scale, number of monks, scripture learning system and Tiaoshen style. Especially after Buddhism dominated most of the Tibetan areas, Bon religion survived in the area centered on Zizhu Temple, which made Zizhu Temple enjoy a high reputation among Bon religion temples.
Until now, most residents in this area still believe in Bon religion, and Zizhu Temple has become a special holy place for Bon religion culture.
