The "mass grave" became a tunnel where the corpses of the murdered miners were piled up after the Japanese invaders occupied the Datong Coal Mine in October 1937 and brutally implemented the bloody policy of "exchanging people for coal". In the eight years since the Japanese invaders occupied the Datong Coal Mine, more than 14 million tons of coal were plundered, and more than 60,000 miners were tortured to death. There are as many as 20 "mass graves" in the Datong coal mining area alone, but only two remain today. This is ironclad evidence that the Japanese army killed Chinese miners, and it is also ironclad evidence of Japan's crimes of aggression against China.
The mass grave is divided into upper and lower holes. The upper cave is more than five meters wide and more than forty meters deep. It is a natural cave. The lower hole is about four meters wide and more than 70 meters deep. It is the tunnel of a small coal mine in the old days. In the two caves, there are piles of corpses of miners who were killed or persecuted to death after the Japanese army occupied Datong during World War II. The pit mouth of Nangou at Meiyukou is only one of more than 20 "mass graves" in the mining area.
