Construction of the East Mansion started in 1938 and was completed in 1945. More than 600,000 bricks of various types, more than 1 million tiles, more than a thousand catties of paint, and more than 10 taels of gold were used to build the East Mansion.
The East Mansion is a "Tian"-shaped villa with a unique layout: the main entrance is a Western-style building, and the doorways and courtyards have different styles and functions. The main house in the main courtyard is a three-storey five-room building, and its frame is composed of twenty-eight pillars reaching to the sky; two-story corner buildings are located at both ends; there are five large old-style halls in the east, west and south; courtyard houses in the northwest and southwest. There are five rooms in the east, west, north, and south; the kitchen yard in the southwest; the flower viewing building, the guard yard, and the chariot yard in the outer yard. Evergreen pines and cypresses are planted on both sides of the courtyard passages.
In the courtyard of the East Mansion, there are pavilions and pavilions connected to each other, carved beams and painted buildings, magnificent. The 189 large and small brick carvings are all made by the famous artist Zhan Chengyuan and his disciples. The patterns are unique and unique. The east and west gates are symmetrical to the peony vase, imitating the characteristics of cloisonné, using a combination of carving and hollowing out, meticulously carved, very realistic.
Entering the main entrance with Western-style architectural features, there is a "Hundred Sons Picture" full of grapes, which makes people salivate. The carving is exquisite and exquisite. On the southeast ridge wall of the three-story building, the "Pine Moon Picture" is bright and full of moonlight, ancient pines are verdant, among the rocks, clear springs rush down, and mountain flowers are blooming. On the east and west walls of the south room of the main courtyard are a picture of a peony in bud and a lotus flower. On both sides of the three-story building, the pattern on the right shows the lush forest under the moon in the mid-autumn moon, and the bamboos are flying upwards. The woodcuts in the courtyard of the East Mansion are also regarded as fine works of art. The houses, doors, windows, partitions, and handrails in the main courtyard are all carved with fine carvings, and the patterns and flowers are gilded. A pair of unicorns are lifelike, lifelike and moving; the woodcut dragons and phoenixes on the flower viewing tower are dancing gracefully, with different expressions. The magnificent classical building is decorated with exquisite woodcut patterns, which makes the whole building look more rich and resplendent.
