Sansu Temple is located in Shaluxing, Dongpo District, Meishan City. It is the former residence of Su Xun, Su Shi and Su Zhe, three famous writers in the Northern Song Dynasty.
The house was converted into a shrine in the Yuan Dynasty, and it was destroyed by war at the end of the Ming Dynasty. It was reconstructed on the original site in the fourth year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty (1665). It is a Sansu Memorial Ancestral Hall and a cultural tourist attraction. Su Shi lived here for twenty-six years, and many of his poems and essays, such as "Nanxuan Mengyu", "Remembering the First Lady Doesn't Kill Birds", "Tianshi Inkstone" and so on, all recalled the situation of living here when he was a child.
It now covers an area of 106 mu, and preserves 16 ancient buildings, ancient wells in Suzhai, Danli in Suzhai, ancient trees of Huangjing, etc., and thousands of cultural relics such as Song rubbings "Drunkard Pavilion" and "Fengle Pavilion" Documents, including Sansu's family precepts, family traditions, life achievements, and Dongpo calligraphy inscriptions, completely retain the style and features of Sansu Memorial Ancestral Hall. The overall layout presents the characteristics of "three parts of water, two parts of bamboo, and the temple is in the middle of the water". A model of gardens, the largest and best-preserved Sansu Memorial Ancestral Hall in China.
It is now a national key cultural relics protection unit and a national AAAA-level tourist attraction. In January 2018, UNESCO awarded Sansu Temple a "Certificate of Honor for Cultural Heritage Protection", saying that it "has made great contributions to the spread of Chinese culture around the world".
