Lajia Temple is located at the foot of Ani Qungong Mountain in Lajia Township, on the north bank of the Yellow River in the northeast of Maqin County, Qinghai. It is located in a canyon, with low altitude and humid climate. Most of the coasts are fertile fields, and the natural scenery is beautiful and charming.

Lajia Temple, also known as "Jiayang Temple", is a very famous Gelugpa temple along the Yellow River. "Laga" is a Tibetan transliteration, referring to the four different images that are elk. It is said that when the Lajia Temple broke ground, a four-shaped elephant was found, so the temple was named after it. The temple was founded by Gexi Arou and belongs to Sera Monastery. The main Buddha statues enshrined in the temple are Sakyamuni, Tsongkhapa, Lotus and Peanut, Avalokitesvara with Thousand Eyes and Thousand Hands, Longevity Buddha, Six Arms Protector and so on.

The whole temple building forms a small building complex, which is similar to the architectural style of the classical garden style in the Central Plains. The whole temple is surrounded by mountains and rivers, with beautiful terrain. Ameni Lekung Mountain is backed by green pines and cypresses, and the silk-like stream flows under it, the scenery is very pleasant.

The temple has the "Tuosang Forest" which is the main scripture hall for the whole temple. There is also a bodhi pagoda. Among them, the Sakyamuni Hall was built in the Qianlong era and has a very long history. There have been many eminent monks in the temple in the past dynasties, and many of their writings have been handed down from generation to generation. Among them, Xihe Zuo Sangre's "Summary of Calendar Calculation", Xiangsa's "Proof Theory", "Explanation of Cause Theory" and "Sai Kangwa Complete Works" are quite influential in Tibetan areas. The Sutra Printing House of the temple once housed more than 50,000 pieces of wooden boards such as "Kanjuer".
