Xishan is located on the west side of Kunming City, adjacent to Dianchi Lake, about 15 kilometers away from the urban area. The forest here is dense, the environment is fresh and elegant, and you can overlook the vast Dianchi Lake. It has always been a good place for Kunming people and tourists to climb mountains and enjoy the scenery. The Longmen Grottoes on the mountain are even more ancient and precious, and it is a must-see for tourists who love humanities.
There are many scenic spots in Xishan Scenic Area, including Huating Temple, Taihua Temple, Nie'er Tomb, Sanqing Pavilion, etc., all of which are more distinctive. Starting from the entrance of the scenic spot, the road up the mountain is asphalt road. Along the way, you can see Dianchi Lake from time to time, and you can also encounter ancient temples such as Huating Temple and Taihua Temple. In addition, the air in the mountains is fresh, and it is quite pleasant to wander around. It takes about 2 hours to walk from the entrance to the Longmen on the top of the mountain. It is recommended to take the environmental protection car in the scenic spot to go directly to the Longmen Gate. After visiting the Longmen Gate, it is easier to walk down the mountain slowly.
Longmen refers to a stone carving project between Sanqing Pavilion on the west mountain and Datian Pavilion on the top of the mountain. The thousands of steps along the way and the reliefs, stone carvings and caves that can be seen everywhere along the way were all carved by craftsmen in the Qing Dynasty using primitive tools. The entire project took 72 years to complete, which is spectacular. Datian Pavilion is the commanding height of Longmen. It has a special viewing platform. Standing on the platform, you can overlook the vast 500-mile Dianchi Lake. After passing the viewing platform and continuing forward, you can reach Lingxu Pavilion. Lingxu Pavilion is higher than Datian Pavilion and has a wider view. But the road is very open and flat. At the end of the tour, you can take the Longmen Cableway back to Taihua Villa on the mountainside.
Walk down the mountain slowly along the mountain road next to Taihua Villa, and you will come to Nie Er's tomb not far away. There is a white marble statue of Nie Er and an exhibition hall, where there is a jukebox with headphones, where you can enjoy Nie Er's music and take a break.
Continue on to Taihua Temple and Huating Temple. The two temples were built in the Yuan Dynasty and the Tang Dynasty respectively. The main buildings such as the Bell and Drum Tower, the Tianwang Hall, and the Daxiong Hall all rise with the mountain, appearing tall and majestic. The two temples are connected by the "Taihua Ancient Road". The mountain road with stone steps is spacious and flat. During the walk, it feels peaceful and far away, and it can also avoid the flow of people going up and down the mountain. Continue to go down, pass through Magnolia Garden and Sheng'an Pavilion in turn, and you can return to the gate of the scenic spot.
