The Yanhe Bridge at the foot of Pagoda Mountain is a stone arch bridge that inherits and develops the traditional skills of open-shouldered arch bridge construction in ancient my country, and has a strong national style. The total length of the bridge is 123 meters, and the clear span of the three holes is 30 meters each. The main arch adopts the form of a vertical wall vierendelic arch, that is, there are 6 small arches on each large span. Pagoda Mountain and Yanhe Bridge, harmonious and radiant together, are already symbols of Yan'an Revolutionary Holy Land, a symbol of the city, and an important scenic spot for photography and painting.
In the process of building the bridge, the people of Yan'an carried forward the glorious tradition of hard work. According to the characteristics of the Yanhe River that does not need navigation and the sandy soil on the riverbed, the construction method of "earth cattle arch tires" was adopted, that is, soil was piled on the riverbed to form an arch. , as a tire mold for masonry arch rings, which greatly reduces the project cost. After the completion of the Yanhe Bridge, its architectural art has been well received by all parties. Wang Zhanyi, a senior bridge culture research expert, praised in his article: "The Yanhe Bridge is well-selected, reasonable in layout, beautiful in shape, and exquisite in craftsmanship. The water, the ancient city of the pagoda, and the beauty of each other, form an interesting contrast."
Today, stones are laid on the bed of the Yanhe River, and concrete guardrails and lampposts are built on the bank. On the pillars are milky white round electric lights. After nightfall, the two banks become a bright line of lights. The majestic pagoda and the magnificent Yanhe Bridge are colorfully decorated, almost brilliant transparent bodies, which are particularly magnificent and charming under the mutual reflection.
