Virginia Beach is an independent city located on the southeastern coast of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. The population was 459,470 at the 2020 census. Although mostly suburban in character, it is the most populous city in Virginia, fifth-most populous city in the Mid-Atlantic, ninth-most populous city in the Southeast and the 42nd-most populous city in the U.S. Located on the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, Virginia Beach is the largest city in the Hampton Roads metropolitan area. In 1965, the Air Force Tianyang Airport was completed and suspended; on June 25, 2003, it was approved by the State Council and the Central Military Commission to implement military and civilian use, and the civilian part was named Baise Tianyang Airport, which was officially opened to navigation on February 4, 2007; September 8, 2013 , Baise Tianyang Airport changed its name to Baise Bama Airport   .
