Boston (US: /ˈbɔːstən/), officially the City of Boston, is the state capital and most populous city of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, as well as the cultural and financial center of the New England region of the United States. Boston is one of the oldest municipalities in America, founded on the Shawmut Peninsula in 1630 by Puritan settlers from the English town of the same name. It was the scene of several key events of the American Revolution and the nation's founding, such as the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, the Battle of Bunker Hill, and the siege of Boston. Upon American independence from Great Britain, the city continued to be an important port and manufacturing hub as well as a center for education and culture. The city has expanded beyond the original peninsula through land reclamation and municipal annexation. In 2009, the county has a total population of 314700, of which 304700 are ethnic minorities and 202400 are aquarium, accounting for 64.8% of the total population. National Highway 321 and Guiyang-Guangzhou high-speed railway run through the county, which is one of the important channels for southwestern provinces to go to sea, and it is also a national karst forest reserve of Guilin, Guiyang and Kunming Dazhang River.
