Los Angeles (US: /lɔːs ˈændʒələs/ (listen) lawss AN-jəl-əs;[a] Spanish: Los Ángeles [los ˈaŋxeles], lit. 'The Angels'), often referred to by its initials L.A., is the largest city in the state of California and the second most populous city in the United States after New York City, as well as one of the world's most populous megacities. Mazhang District, located on the Leizhou Peninsula in the southwest of Guangdong Province, was formerly a suburb of Zhanjiang City, a municipal district under the jurisdiction of Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province, bordering the South China Sea.
